Elanor is playing Molly in Sandy High School's play, "Annie". I did the choreography. We had one weekend of shows last week and have another this week. If you're in the area, you should come!

Halloween 2015

It was really fun to have a new member of the family for Halloween, as it has been the three of us for the last four years. Elanor wanted to dress as a squirrel in her costume from the Willy Wonka play, so we themed our costumes around that. I made Alice a little acorn costume and Tyler and I were trees.

My face paint looked pretty good in person. I tried to make my skin look like bark.

Alice was such an adorable acorn and I love that Tyler humors me and dresses up. Though I suspect he likes it/does not mind and loves how excited Elanor gets when we are all in costume.

I did not get any good pictures unfortunately! It was too rainy outside and too dark inside to get any decent pictures.

It was raining so much (it had not rained for awhile and then this week, and especially on Halloween, it was torrential!). We had an umbrella, but Elanor was too excited and running from house to house to stay under an umbrella. Plus, her head was covered and she was warm.

There is this house in Troutdale (little old people), who go all out and decorate for every holiday. Elanor loved trick-or-treating here!

Here is Elanor's pumpkin. She just wanted everything to be very themed this year!

 We were able to see family, visit with friends, trick-or-treat in the rain, eat pizza and eclairs--so it was a good night!

This is the best photo we got, as it was soooo rainy and thus we were unable to go outside for pictures! Also, it got dark very fast.

We did have a lovely time though, more on that tomorrow!

Pumpkin Patch Fun

I love going to pumpkin patches.  My longtime friend, Kate, invited us to go with her and her daughter, Killian, to a patch near their house. It was super busy, which was not my favorite, but we had a fun time!

As I already said, Elanor loves doing these cut-out face pictures, but for some reason looked super bored in most of the pictures. Alice is pretty funny though and seems to be enjoying herself.

One thing I love about being back in Oregon, is seeing so many friends that I grew up with. Kate is one such person and I have known her for so long! We were in school together, did plays and ballet together, have traveled to England together, etc. She is one of my favorites. I hope our daughters can be friends too. We should have taken a picture together at the pumpkin patch!

Elanor loves these cut-out face photo-ops, yet she is the one that looks bored in most of the pictures (she kept asking to take more and go to all of them that they had around this pumpkin patch).  This had to be a the Weekly Photo, because-- just look at Alice!

I had to put a Halloween picture up for my Weekly Photo, of course!

Halloween

We had a really fun Halloween this year. In fact, Elanor declared that it was the best Halloween ever. We had themed costumes this year, we (Becky and I) had an awesome homemade doughnut and cider stand in our front yard and we had a lot of good friends around.

I made this costume and it was the first time I put a zipper in!

I was the White Rabbit and Tyler was the Mad Hatter. I made or put together all of our costume pieces. I even made Tyler's hat!

I did not get any great pictures of our doughnut stand, and this is just taken with my phone.

This is also with my phone, but here we have a dinosaur, Robin, Batman, Alice, a fireman, and a little piggy! 

Trick-or-treat!

Here are our pumpkins this year! I did the owl and Tyler's is Batman and he also did Piglet for Elanor.

All Hallows Eve (and a little morning)

Elanor and I started off the day with these pumpkin pancakes 

and the Pandora Halloween station. We had fun dancing to "Thriller", "Monster Mash", "Ghostbusters", etc. 

We were still feeling a little lazy and sluggish from being sick earlier, so we did not do much during the day. When, Tyler got home from class, we carved our pumpkins.

We did not have a ton of time, so they were not super cool like previous years pumpkins. Elanor did not want to carve her pumpkin this year for some reason. She seemed to think it would hurt the pumpkin. So she painted hers and throughly enjoyed it.

After pumpkin carving, we ate dinner and then headed over to my aunt's house so Elanor could trick-or-treat there and show everyone her costume. We then headed back to our neighborhood and got back a little late to find that our trick-or-treating group had already started. However, some other friends also came over and trick-or-treated with us.

Elanor loved trick-or-treating! She had fun running from house to house and saying "trick-or-treat". Running, not walking mind you.

Happy Halloween!

I am so excited about Elanor's Halloween costume this year. I actually made it and it actually looks good! I mentioned on here before that Elanor was going to be Little Red Riding Hood and I have been prepping for this costume since August (I bought the material and supplies back then) and I actually finished the costume in plenty of time. I made a corset type vest, a skirt, apron and of course a little red cloak.  My inspiration for this costume were the traditional Norwegian folk clothes such as this:

I went this route because I wanted a very old-fashioned, traditional feel and something that Little Red Riding Hood might have actually worn (though the story is from Germany, not Norway). I also used this cloak tutorial, but I lined the cloak, and used a button and elastic instead of velcro. 

When we were back in Oregon two weeks ago, we took Elanor into my parent's forest for a little photo shoot/walk/picnic--she pretended like she was going to "Grandma's house" the whole time.

I could not get Elanor to slow down. She was bound and determined to get to "Grandma's house", obviously she would not have stopped to chat with a wolf.

I could not keep up!

We stopped for a sunny, pleasant picnic.

We found a ton  of leaves and Elanor wanted to play in them, of course!

In these two pictures, you can see some of the details of the costume:

 The cloak exterior is corduroy, and the interior is cotton. The vest is canvas, and gave the outfit the rustic feel I wanted. The skirt is some sort of felted wool material. I am not completely sure, as I found about 2 yards of it at a vintage shop for only $2! The little apron is just some white cotton fabric I already had and I added the eyelet trim, and the band with the ribbon. This ribbon is traditional Norwegian ribbon and it is so beautiful! I ordered the ribbon from an Etsy shop. 

 I enjoyed making this costume and we are so excited to take Little Red out trick-or-treating tonight (we are all feeling much better, fyi).
