Weekly Photos

This blog really is plenty of nothing. I have been really busy and still am, but I figured it had been so long, and made myself get on the computer today and do this. We have had Elanor's birthday (she's 6 now!) , had Christmas, I'm directing the play Secret Garden with my good friend, Mallory, and I have obsessively been following the news, especially in the last two weeks since Trump has become president. It is really stressing me out and he is pretty much the worst there ever was (that may be an exaggeration, but there certainly has not been anyone so orange). If you would like to take your mind off horrible news, scroll through these photos from the last few months.

Should have been posted November 21st:

 Morning silliness and snuggles.

Should have been posted November 28th:
With the Christmas tree we picked out.

Should have been posted December 5th:

We picked up my brother, Erik (and my parents too, they went to Europe to pick him up and travel around), from the airport after serving a two year mission for our church in Sweden. There was this silly cutout at the airport and of course Elanor and Erik got their picture taken in it.

Should have been posted December 12th:

Elanor's birthday was the 10th and she had a Harry Potter birthday party. It was a really fun party!

Should have been posted December 19th:
This was a busy week!

Alice with Mema at Kim's school gift charity event.

We celebrated St. Lucia Day this year (and we like the tradition and will now do it every year!). Elanor in a Lucia dress my parents got her in Sweden, they also opened St. Lucia pajamas.
We also went and saw Santa this week, Erik gave his homecoming talk, my grandpa and Vonnie were also in town. It was a fun week!

Should have been posted December 26th:

It was the first time all the Scott kids were there for Christmas in four years. So, of course we had to get pictures taken.

Alice as the Angel in our little Nativity play on Christmas Eve.

Should have been posted on January 2nd:

Christmas day
(I left my phone home, so only have these few pictures from the morning! I need to get some from Tyler)
Elanor with her Hermione doll from Santa.

My cousin also got married on the 29th, so we went to Utah for the wedding.

Should have been posted January 9th:

We had a lot of snow and ice storms the first couple weeks in January. I love snow, even though Portland totally freaks out when there is an inch of snow.

Should have been posted January 16th for MLK Day:

Should have been posted January 23rd:

We marched at the Women's March on January 21st for women's rights worldwide. It was a peaceful and unifying experience.

Should have been posted on January 30th:
Bath baby.

The Weekly Photo (s)

Yeah, I'm a bit late again and I hardly post actual posts. This blog is starting to be pretty pathetic. Oh, well. I will keep trying.

This should have been posted on September 19th:
We picked a ton of apples at my parents house and turned them into applesauce, apple crisps, apple pies, etc.

This should have been posted on September 26th:
We went camping with Tyler's family (including his parents, brother and girlfriend, and aunt, uncle and cousins). It was a lot of fun and we soaked up that last bit of summer.

Should have been posted yesterday, the 3rd:
School in the morning--and this might be one of my favorite pictures ever.

The Weekly Photo(s)

I have so many fairly valid excuses for not blogging (the play, Utah trip, two weddings-one being my brothers, the play again, guests staying at our house), but still I have been fairly pathetic.

The Weekly Photo

I'm in a play! I am really excited about this one. The past few plays I have been in with my mom (Black Swan Youth Theatre) have been small parts and most of the cast has been high school or younger. However, for this play, since it is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare, she opened up auditions to anyone she has previously worked with. Most of the cast members are out of high school and several of them are from my group of actors growing up. It is so great to act with them again and it has been so fun!

If you are in Portland and would like to see the show, buy tickets here:
You really should come, it is in a park, the play is "As You Like It" (so funny and pretty much everything you could want in a play), and I and some truly great people and actors are in it!

Weekly Photos

Oh, you know, late again. I am having the hardest time staying on top of this blog with trips, holidays, family, play practice (that is right, I'm in a play!), and more horrible national news. Whew. But, people keep telling me they love reading this little blog, so I will try and keep at it.

Here are some Weekly Photos:

Should have been posted June 20th:
Happy Birthday and Happy Father's Day to my favorite Tyler!

Should have been posted June 27th:

We went up to the San Juan Islands and Bellingham to celebrate little Cedric's (my nephew) 1st birthday!

Should have been posted July 4th:

We had a quick visit with my grandpa, aunt, cousin and her kids. These kids are 3rd cousins or maybe 4th. Their mom is my mom's 1st cousin. The point is that they are cousins.

And for today!:

4th of July fun!

We spent the day swimming in Mema and Papa's pool,  the early evening at a good friend's party, and s'mores and sparklers with my parents to finish off a fun day.

And hopefully you will hear from me soon!

The Weekly Photo + Some Thoughts

I love this picture of these two. Elanor being goofy and Alice watching and trying to figure Elanor out.

Some thoughts:

I am generally an optimistic person that believes there is much good in this world--and I still do. But I was having a real Theoden moment today. In the Two Towers film, Rohan seems to be on the point of destruction and the battle lost and the king, Theoden, says "What can men do against such reckless hate?" He said it in a moment of despair. I felt a bit like that after hearing and pondering much on the massacre in Florida. Also, added to that is all this built up sadness over the plight of so many refugees and my brother (who is on a mission in Sweden) hearing first hand so many horrible stories and knowing how burdened he feels because of it all and add that to an absolutely horrible and callous person running for president (ie Trump), and the fact that there are so many Americans who support him, and that gets me back to thinking about all these hurts and wrongs, and mean people and prejudice and racism and sexism and men getting away with rape and murder and what in the world is wrong with people?

But.

Feeling pain and anguish and love is human and makes us human, to not feel means you must not be human, as Dumbledore explains to Harry (Book 5). Feeling these things is good, even if they break your heart. Harry did not beat Voldemort with violence or fancy wand waving. He sacrificed himself for the love of others (+plus some smarts and the Elder wand). This is the only way we can win too. Love. Sacrifice. Empathy. Service. I do not like the title "The War on Terrorism". We cannot fight evil with violence. It will not work. We can all be better. I can be better. We can love more. And I know in so many ways it does not seem as simple as that and there are so many complex and difficult things going on, but if everyone acted a bit more like the Good Samaritan all problems would cease.

I don't want to go on and on, but if you need to feel like there is good in this world or would like to feel some hope you should check out these videos:

I wrote a letter to my brother talking more about Harry Potter and love and if you would like to read it go here: https://scottboys.wordpress.com/2016/06/07/help-from-harry/
While there, you should also check out some of his letters about his experiences in Sweden.

To close, we cannot let fear get the better of us and stop us from helping those who need it. We are all human in this world and our differences should not stop us from rescuing those in need. All that matters is that we are all related and we should all love one another.

Also, sending so much love and many prayers to those in Florida affected by the horrendous massacre.

The Weekly Photo

1st view of the sea.

I have been thinking of changing the title of this blog. I like the meaning behind the current title (from the Louis Armstrong/Ella Fitzgerald song about not having material stuff, but having the important things, such as love), but I'm not sure it comes across that way, it more comes across that there is nothing to read about on here. And that is sort of funny. However, I want something better. If anyone has any ideas, comment! I will continue to think of a new title as well, and someday soon it will be different.
